FIELDS - Food Poisoning From Home Canned Corn Is Blamed - Botulinis poisoning resulting from home canned corn was a factor in the death of Mrs. Ruf Fields, 63, at her home on the Dollarway last night, Dr. Clayton P. Wangeman, who attended her, said today. Mrs. Fields ate a tablespoonful of corn from a newly-opened jar at her farm home last Wednesday, Dr. Wangeman said. Believing the corn was not good, she threw the remainder of the jar out. Next day more than a dozen chickens were found dead from 'limberneck," which corresponds to botulism in humans. -Called Friday- Mrs. Fields had complained of illness, but Dr. Wangeman was not called until Friday night. Diagnosing botulism, Dr. Wangeman made efforts to locate serum, which is not produced commercially, but these were unsuccessful until Sunday, when some was found at the Oregon state health department. Dr. Wangeman said the serum is not effective unless given within two days. He said the small amount of corn Mrs. Fields ate might not have produced fatal results, had there not been complications resulting from her age and general physical condition. -Came Here In 1905- Mrs. Fields and her husband, Ruf Fields, who died in 1935, came to Ellensburg from Rogersville, Tenn., in 1905. She is survived by four sons, Henry and Robert of Ellensburg; Charles of Seattle and Elmer of Honolulu; five daughters, Mrs. Allie Hicks of tacoma; Mrs. Lena Gorman, Mrs. Nan Schamel, Mrs. Viola Reigel, of Ellensburg and Mrs. Beulah Ferrier of Toppenish; her mother, Mrs. Harret Mead of Channing, Texas; three sisters, Mrs. Sally Flemings, Channing; Mrs. Nannie Nelley, Silesbee, Texas, and Mrs. Jane Fields of Ellensburg; a brother, T.
