Death followed a stroke that he suffered early the same morning. Melvin Manley Dorn was born April 20, 1863, in Lee county, Ill., a son of the late Aaron W. and Laura A. Fuller Dorn. When a child three years of age, his parents moved to Fontanelle, Iowa, where he grew to manhood, and where on March 24, 1887, he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret E. Hemphill. The made their home in the Fontanelle community, living on a farm until February, 1917, when they moved into town to make their home, and where Mrs. Dorn passed away on Oct. 2, 1925. Following the death of Mrs. Dorn, he and his two children, Claude E. and Leitha, made their home in Fontanelle until 1929, when Mr. Dorn purchased a residence property in Anita and with his children moved here to make his home. Leitha joined her mother in death on April 12, 1931. On Aug. 16, 1933, he was married to Mrs. Elva Howard, who with the son Claude E. Dorn, is left to mourn his death. From a family of ten children, all have preceded him in death with the exception of one brother, Harry Dorn, of Des Moines. During the nine years residence in Anita, Mr. Dorn formed a wide acquaintance and made many friends. He was a gentleman in every way and lead a clean and upright life. He was one of the great middle class of citizens who never aspire to fame and who live their life quietly and decently, discharging all the obligations thereof with fidelity. The class of citizen to which Mr. Dorn belonged constitute the bone and sinew of our country. No imposing marble shafts and no outstanding places in history commemorate their life, but they do have a legacy more valuable than time, the record of a life well lived and a duty well done. Such was the story of this man who has just passed on. Funeral services were held at 2:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church in Anita. Interment was made in the Fontanelle cemetery.
