Editor's Note-Mrs. McNabb with her husband resided in Horry County many years ago owning and operating a large farm in the Gurley section. Horry Herald December 6, 1937 On November 17, the death angel came and removed from earth to heaven the sweet spirit of our dear mother Mrs. Mantha C. McNabb, daughter of the late Petway and Mantha Ann Cartwright of Horry County. She was born in the year 1846, have passed through the trying Strife of the States including the Carpet Bag Rule and Reconstruction Period of the the Old South, all without complaint. In May 1866 she was married to Samuel McNabb. To this union were born twelve children five of whom survive her. She joined the Poplar Methodist Church just a few miles north of Conway at an early age, and was happily converted to God a few years later after which she centered her efforts on bringing her children into the path which she chose to follow in the service of the Lord and Savior. On Feb. 3, 1893, her husband was called to make the journey to heaven, leaving her the responsibility of rearing several small children which she faced bravely doing her full duty as a Christian mother. About thirty years ago she left her old home in Horry County moving to Hartsville SC, to make a home for her invalid son, the late Mr. E. V. McNabb, who preceded her five years ago. She had been in ill health six years prior to her death. She leaves to mourn their loss five children L. G. McNabb, Florence SC, S. M. McNabb, Bartow Fla, R. B. McNabb, Columbia; Mrs. S. J. Sessions, Florence, Mrs. A. B. Morris, Moorehead City NC; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Two sisters Mrs. Margaret Harris, Allsbrook, and Mrs. Fannie Booth, AYnor, ; one brother George W. Cartrette, Conway. Rev. Ernest Dugan, assisted by Rev. T. E. Detrick, pastor of Poplar Church Sunday afternoon Nov. 18. After which her remains were placed by the side of her late husband in the churchyard cemetery beneath a beautiful mound of flowers.
