Description	:	M.F. POTTORFF died at the home of his nephew, W.S. POTTORFF, about four miles northwest of town, Monday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock after three days illness with pneumonia. He enjoyed his usual health until Saturday, when he was stricken with the disease which terminated fatally in spite of all that medical skill could do. The funeral services were held at the house on Wednesday, after which interment was made in the Shy Cemetery. The deceased was born in Indiana, November 2, l844, and was therefore 60 years, 5 months and ll days old at the time of his death. His father's name was GIDEON POTTORFF. His mother's maiden name was SUSAN ALTHAUS and his parents were born in Kentucky. The deceased lived for many years in Wayne County where he was recognized as a man of industrious habits and excellent character. During the past two years, he has made his home with MR. and MRS. W.S. POTTORFF. He never married. His was a simple life, but wherever he made his home he commanded the respect and the good will of all who knew him. When MR. POTTORFF was seized with illness last Saturday, he felt that death was near and he called in an attorney and made his final dispositions. To his nephew, W.S. POTTORFF, he bequeathed the farm of l05 acres on which he resided. He had a twin brother Samuel Filetus Pottorff Copy of letter written by his brother George Rutter to their sister Elizabeth Pottorff Gaston. ".... After Father died, Manuel put in a bill in court claiming the value of the farm and property for keeping father and mother as long as they lived so the court allowed his claim. Then he sold everything and came out here [Silverton, Oregon] a year ago this last winter with he said the $4000 to buy a place here. John's Willie and family [who had been living with Manuel on father's place] came with him, but Willies family went to his sisters to stop about 40 miles from here while Willie and Manuel came to see us. They came I believe on Tuesday and on Friday same week they wanted to look at a place close by, so they went, but did not return, but in a day or two I got a letter from Willie that instead of looking at the place they boarded the cars and went to his family and that him and Manuel was going back to Iowa. Those 2 or 3 days is all that I saw of Manuel. He got all of father's property then willed it all to Willie. Manuel never married. Death and cem. info from WPA Records
