Born in Jefferson Township, Whitley County, to Harold and Marjorie KAUFMAN TSCHANTZ, she married Tony NEWELL March 25, 1954, in Huntington. He died April 3, 1989. She married Ricardo Antonio AVILA Oct. 12, 1991, in Rochester. He died Oct. 22, 1998. Mrs. Avila came to Rochester in 1968 from Decatur. Prior to that, she lived in the Whitley County area. She was a loan processor at First Federal Savings Bank, Rochester, and a receptionist for the former Rauschke State Farm Insurance office, Rochester. She was the valedictorian of her 1953 Jefferson Center High School class, Whitley County, and attended Manchester College. She was a kindergarten teacher in the Decatur school system for a short time prior to moving to Rochester. She was a homemaker and loving mother and spouse. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was always very supportive of her family in their sporting endeavors, attending her children's and grandson's basketball, softball and baseball games, and track meets. She was a beautiful piano player and a very gifted writer. Her notes and letters will be cherished by family and friends. She was a member of Laud Christian Church. Survivors include two daughters, Miss Rochelle "Shelly" L. NEWELL, and Mrs. Loraine L. NEWELL THOMPSON and husband Brad, all of Rochester; one son, Mr. Christopher M. NEWELL, Fort Wayne; one grandson, Cahner Newell THOMPSON, Rochester. Preceding in death with her husbands were her parents, one brother, Richard TSCHANTZ, and one sister, infant Rebecca TSCHANTZ. Services are at 10 a.m. Friday at Foster & Good Funeral Home, Rochester, with Rev. James CLIFFORD of Laud Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be at Rochester IOOF Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Laud Christian Church or Fulton County Public Library, Rochester.
