Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 23, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kimball with Pastor Kenneth Mars officiating. Burial will be held in the Kimball Cemetery. The services for Marcella have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home. Marcella Marie Baack was born in McNutt, Canada on April 21, 1920, the daughter of Gustav and Magdalene (Hitzemann) Boehnke. Her father was a Lutheran pastor and she was baptized by him on May 25, 1920. She moved with her family at an early age to Ord, Nebraska. The family later lived in several places in Nebraska before settling north of Potter where her father was the minister at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She was confirmed into the Lutheran Faith in April of 1933. Marcella attended school in Sidney and graduated in 1938. She worked at the Governor’s Mansion in Cheyenne and then worked at the Dime Store in Sidney. She was married by her father who was the Pastor at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Potter to Herbert Baack on Aug. 18, 1940. The family made their home on a farm north of Dix. Herbert and Marcella retired in 1988 and moved to Kimball at that time. She worked at GRI for more than 40 years. Marcella enjoyed sewing and reading books. Spending time with her family was very important to her. Survivors include her children Sylvia James of Kimball., Lyle (Sherill) Baack of Dallas, Texas, Dennis (Linda Black) Baack of Lincoln, Nebraska and Judy (Jim) Sparks of El Reno, Oklahoma; brother Roland (Delores) Boehnke of Kansas City, Missouri; sister Arlene Amy of Denver, Colorado; eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother Edgar Boehnke; sisters Rhoda Meyer and Renata Boehnke; grandson Douglas James; and son-in-law Ron James.
