Burial will take place at Selby Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home, Mobridge. Closed casket visitation, Friday, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to different Selby organizations. Marcella (Sally) Thorstenson of Selby died Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Center in Selby. She was born February 8, 1930 in Akaska, SD to John and Lydia (Becker) Eisemann, she attended grade school at Akaska and was a graduate of Gettysburg High School. She earned her teaching certificate and was an elementary teacher. She also worked at the ASCS office and was the bookkeeper for Thorstenson Trucking for 13 years. Sally married Norman Thorstenson on May 28, 1950, at Bethany Lutheran Church. They lived on a farm 7 miles northwest of Selby. In 1957 they moved to Selby when they purchased an implement dealership. In 1964 they moved back to the same farmstead. The summer of 2013 Sally became a resident of the Good Samaritan Home in Selby. Sally was the Sunday School Superintendent at Bethany Lutheran Church in rural Selby. She was secretary – treasurer of the Selby Music Mothers and Bethany Lutheran ALCW, President of St. John's Lutheran ALCW, council member at St John's Lutheran, city secretary of the Selby Women's Bowling Association for 16 years. She was a charter member of the Selby Lioness Club and had perfect attendance for 25 years. As a Lioness she served as president and secretary at the local level. Her pet project was the club's scrapbook which she did for several years. She served as secretary-treasurer at the state level on Lioness Advisory Board in which they received a special award for the support to Special Olympics. Sally was a member of the Selby Opera Committee, the Selby Centennial Publicity Committee and a den mother for cub scouts. Norm and Sally traveled to Europe, Northern Africa, South America and every state in the United States except Hawaii. Sally enjoyed gardening, reading, word finds, scrap booking, riding bike, riding in the pickup anywhere with Norman, and most of all bowling. Being the mother of 8 children she spent countless hours in the bleacher watching wrestling, football, basketball and softball. She was one of Selby High School's most loyal fans until her health no longer allowed it. She was a wonderful cook and no one ever left her table hungry. Survivors include her loving and dedicated husband of 64 years, Norman Thorstenson of Selby: Children Angela Thorstenson, Selby, Leslie Thorstenson, Selby, Trent Thorstenson, Selby, Rory Thorstenson, Selby, Deserae Simons, Selby, Tone Thorstenson, Weatherford, Texas, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were two sons, Albert and David Thorstenson, two sisters, Alvina Jucht and Clara Wickersham, two brothers, Rhinie and Reuben Eisemann and great-grandson, Adam Thorstenson. Sally's wishes were memorials to a charity or something in the community of your choice in lieu of flowers.
