Description	:	Veteran Civil War Marcellus was the son of David Fagin and Clarissa Dunham. He married Ruth Ellen Crawford on 1 January 1879 in Marshall Co, Iowa. They were the parents of 5 children: Lena Belle (1880), Elmer R (1882, Anna M Nelson), Nahlon (1884), and William Raymond (1885). Elmer and Nahlon living with uncle Levi Fagan in Calhoun co, IA in 1900. Carroll Sentinel - Friday, May 7, 1886 - Mr. Marcellus Fagan, who for the past year was superintendent of Patterson Bros' farm in Sheridan township, died Saturday, April 30, of disease of the stomach and bowels. He had been subject to severe pains in this way for years, supposed to have been contracted in the army. This time he was attacked in the usual way but more severely, and Saturday morning the symptoms became alarming. He suffered the most intense pain until about midnight, when death released him. It is supposed that the cause of death was telescoping of the bowels. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Presbyterian church, Rev. Mr. Linn officiating. Jeff C. Davis post, assisted by Co. B had charge of the funeral arrangements, and with the band escorted the remains to the cemetery. Mr. Fagan was member of the G.A.R. at Gilman, Marshall county, from which place he moved to this county a year ago. He leaves a wife and five children in slender circumstances. He was but 36 years of age. He was greatly esteemed by all who had formed his acquaintance, and the Messrs. Patterson speak of him in the highest terms as having been a man in whom the utmost confidence could be reposed.
