Read More	Marcia Isilda Sanford Smith Marcia Isilda Sanford was born at Caneadea, New York, July 17, 1854, and departed this life May 12, 1944, at Holton, Kansas, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Iva Adams, with whom she had made her home for the past 15 years, having reached the ripe old age of 89 years, 9 months and 25 days. She moved with her family to Hazel Green, Wis., where on September 13, 1871, she was united in marriage to Albert F. Smith. They settled at Sumner, Iowa where they lived until 1882, when they moved to Chamberlain, S.D. In the fall of 1898, they moved to Kansas ans settled in Jackson County, which has since been their home. Mrs. Smith was the youngest of 12 children of Ezekiel and Marcia Dean Sanford, and was the last surviving member of the family. Her home was blessed with eight children, three of whom, Charles,Harriett and Herbert, having died in childhood, and a son, Francis, died in Denver in 1942, at the age of 69 years. She is survived by four children, Orel Smith of Soldier; Ralph Smith of Las Angles, Calif.; Roy Smith and Mrs. Iva Adams of Holton. Also 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Four of her grandsons, all sons of Mr. and Mrs. Orel Smith of Soldier, are in the armed services of their country. Her husband, Albert F. Smith, passed away in 1926. She united with the First Methodist Church at Holton, soon after moving to this country, and was a devoted member and faithful attendant until recently, when her health failed her. She was a regular attendant at Sunday School as a member of the Golden Rule Class. She had been an active member of the Ladies' Aid Society, and was a charter member of the W.S.C.S. Her church meant much to her. She was also a member of the local Ladies of the G.A.R. Circle, until it disbanded a few years ago, and a member of the Eastern Star Chapter, transferring her membership here from Sumner, Iowa, but secured a demit when she could no longer attend. She was of a kindly disposition and took her troubles in a matter of fact way. She was also very appreciative of any favors bestowed upon her. A good woman has gone to her just and deserving reward. Would that there were more of her kind. Funeral services were held from the Methodist Church Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by her pastor, Rev. Owen W. Prince. Miss Maxine Roche sang two numbers with Bill Hurrel at the organ. Pallbearers were John Stratton, George Walton, Jesse Bumgardner, Jay Bennett, Geo. Bronson, and C.W. Porterfield. Burial was at the Holton Cemetery.
