Description	:	It is with great sadness that the family of Marcia Jean Pothast announces her passing after a short battle with cancer on Saturday, September 1, 2018, in Stockton, California. She was 71 years old. An Iowa native, Marcia was born in Marshalltown on June 15, 1947 and raised on the family farm by her parents Harold and Ruth (Nordyke) Pothast. She attended Marshalltown High School, and from there went on to graduate from Iowa State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Child Development. Read More	It is with great sadness that the family of Marcia Jean Pothast announces her passing after a short battle with cancer on Saturday, September 1, 2018, in Stockton, California. She was 71 years old. An Iowa native, Marcia was born in Marshalltown on June 15, 1947 and raised on the family farm by her parents Harold and Ruth (Nordyke) Pothast. She attended Marshalltown High School, and from there went on to graduate from Iowa State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Child Development. After college, Marcia spent 10 years working as a recreational director in a children’s convalescent home in Des Moines. Following her move to California, she began a new career as a software engineer with Sun-Maid Growers, which she enjoyed for 35 years until her retirement. An active participant in her community, Marcia was involved in a number of local organizations dedicated toward helping those around her. She worked with the Stockton Animal Protection League to provide foster homes for displaced pets, served as President on her resident Condo Board, and was District Director and President of the local Soroptimist International of Lodi. Marcia is survived by her sister Carol (Pothast) Wiedenmann and brother Mike Pothast, nieces and nephews David and Gregg Wiedenmann, Eric Pothast, Meredith Skala, Andrea Lutter. She is also survived by her her two chihuahuas Maggie and Mitty, and her five cats Caboose, Huey, Chips, Percy and Smudge. Marcia rejoined her parents who preceded her in death. A gravesite service will be held at 2 pm October 13 at Maple Grove Cemetery, Melbourne, IA and a Celebration of Life will be held at 2 pm October 27 at Emerson Park in Lodi, CA.
