Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Jefferson, with the Rev. Joe Vogel officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. Marcus was born on Dec. 1, 1924, the son of Clarence "Bud" and Bernadette "Pet" (Fountaine) Bernard of Jefferson. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1942. Marcus married Margaret Crevier on Aug. 23, 1948, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Jefferson. They made their home in Jefferson. Marcus was born at the family farm. He farmed his whole life, first with his dad Clarence "Bud," then with his sons, Marc and Pierre, and then grandson, Adam. He sold DeKalb Seed Corn for more than 50 years. In 2009, the Bernard farm was awarded the distinction of Century Farm. Marcus also worked at Sodrac Park selling Perfecta Tickets for 20 years and had a knack for picking dogs. He worked at Park Jefferson Horse Track weighing the jockeys before and after each horse race. He served on his local school board and parish council. Most of all, Marcus will be remembered for his good humor, patience, generosity, faith and kindness. He was a wonderful father and grandfather. He and his wife, Margaret, were dear friends, always welcoming and young at heart. Survivors include his daughter, Mary (Brad) Jones of Jefferson; sons, Marc (Marilyn) of Mitchell, S.D., and Pierre (Linda) of Jefferson; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Crevier) Bernard; a daughter, Lisa Anne Wachlarowicz; a brother, Buddy Jr.; a brother, Daryl (Marvis) Bernard of Yankton, S.D.; and a sister, Bernie Rae Box of Moline, Ill.
