Description	:	Mareka was born in Ostfriesland, Germany to Hinderks and Fokkea (Boekelman) Buss. Mareka married Bregter Alberts on Feb. 20, 1868 in Odersum, Ostfriesland, Germany. To this union 5 children were born; Herman Heinrich, Herman, John G.(Johan), Heinriech (Hank) and Bregter (Brechter). Mareka married Ubbe Johnson in Iowa. Mareka attained the age of 98 years, 2 months and 5 days. Funeral services were held here in the Bethel Reformed church for Mrs. Maraka Johnson, 98, who died at the home of her son, H. B. To this union 5 children were born; Herman Heinrich, Herman, John G.(Johan), Heinriech (Hank) and Bregter (Brechter). Mareka married Ubbe Johnson in Iowa. Mareka attained the age of 98 years, 2 months and 5 days. Funeral services were held here in the Bethel Reformed church for Mrs. Maraka Johnson, 98, who died at the home of her son, H. B. Alberts, with whom she has lived for past two years. Previous to this arrangement, Mrs. Johnson lived alone and did her own housework, and for many years had held the distinction of being the oldest resident of this community and one of the oldest in the state. Born Sep. 5, 1842 at Oldersum, Germany, she married Bregter Alberts and 1868 and came with him to America the same year. They made the trip in a sailboat and packed their own food supplies. They lived five years at Ackley, IA, and then homesteaded four miles northeast of the present town of Davis, making their home for many years in a sod house. After the death of Mr. Alberts, she married Ubbe Johnson. Pallbearers were six sons: Herman, Henry and John Alberts of Davis, Bernie Alberts of Lennox, Obbo Johnson of Davis and Henry Johnson of Flandreau. Other survivors are three sons and three daughters: Eddie Johnson of Riverton, WY, Jerry Johnson of St. Louis, MO, Wiatt Johnson of Steamboat Rock, IA, Mrs. George Dental of Ackley, IA, Mrs Hensman Smith of Applington, IA and Mrs. Abbie Heath of Chicago.
