Description	:	Margaret Smith, age 95, of Boone and the Eastern Star Masonic Home, died August 25, 2014, at the Eastern Star Home. Margaret Agnes Smith was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on January 23, 1919, the daughter of William and Christine (Weigel) Smith. By school age, the family had moved to a farm north of Boone and it was there in a one-room school house that Margaret received the first seven years of her education. Read More	Margaret Smith, age 95, of Boone and the Eastern Star Masonic Home, died August 25, 2014, at the Eastern Star Home. Margaret Agnes Smith was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on January 23, 1919, the daughter of William and Christine (Weigel) Smith. By school age, the family had moved to a farm north of Boone and it was there in a one-room school house that Margaret received the first seven years of her education. For her eighth grade and four years of high school, she attended Sacred Heart High School in Boone graduating in 1936. Following graduation, Margaret joined the Dominican Sisters in Sinsinawa, Wisconsin. Until 1968, Margaret taught countless number of children in parochial elementary schools in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Nebraska. At this time Margaret left the Dominican Order and found a teaching position at St. John of the Cross School in Western Springs, Illinois, where she taught for twenty years. She excelled in teaching, reading to the students who had reading disabilities. After 50 years of teaching, Margaret finally found it time to retire and moved into the Felician Village in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, where she spent several years doing volunteer work in the nursing home. After many years, Margaret desired to live closer to her extended family prompting a move to Madrid, Iowa. The past several years Margaret has resided in Boone at the Eastern Star Masonic Home. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Frank and W. Albert 'Bert' Smith, a nephew Roger Smith and a great niece Laura Wuebker. Margaret is survived by her sister, Rose Smith of Boone; her sister-in-law Mary Smith of Boone; a nephew John Smith of Urbana, Missouri; nieces Mary Walsh and husband Mike of Sioux City; Donna Johnson and husband Tom of Boone and Janet Wuebker and husband Wayne of Afton; many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
