Miss McQueen was born January 22, 1930 in Galivants Ferry a daughter of the late Samuel B. and Lutie Cartrette McQueen. Miss McQueen graduated from Coker College in 1950, and taught in the Jacksonville Florida school system for twenty years. After teaching a total of thirty years she retired from Aynor Elementary School. She was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church where she was the church treasurer for many years, and in 1997 she received the appreciation... Read More	Galivants Ferry ……Margaret Aleva McQueen age 79, of Nichols Hwy, passed away Sunday September 20, 2009 at her residence, surrounded by her family. Miss McQueen was born January 22, 1930 in Galivants Ferry a daughter of the late Samuel B. and Lutie Cartrette McQueen. Miss McQueen graduated from Coker College in 1950, and taught in the Jacksonville Florida school system for twenty years. After teaching a total of thirty years she retired from Aynor Elementary School. She was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church where she was the church treasurer for many years, and in 1997 she received the appreciation plaque for her many years of faithful service as the church treasurer. She was predeceased by three brothers Grover McQueen; Bill McQueen; and Samuel B. Mc Queen Jr.; one sister Ruth Buckelew. Surviving are three sisters Pearl Ingram of Ridgeland S.C.; Virginia Crews and her husband Roy of Oxford N.C.; and Carolyn Hallman of Rock Hill S.C.; one sister-in-law Rosemary McQueen of Galivants Ferry S.C.; Many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday September 22, 2009 at Gethsemane Baptist Church with the Rev. Gordon Graham officiating. Burial will follow in Rehobeth United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday September 21, 2009 at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to Gethsemane Baptist Church, 4665 Nichols Hwy. Galivants Ferry S.C. 29544, or to Rehobeth United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund 2775 Barnhill Road Galivants Ferry S.C. 29544.
