Graveside services will be held at the Lettsville Cemetery, Letts, Iowa on September 10, 2022 at 11:00 am. Following the service, all are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life Reception at 12:00 at the Letts Community Center. Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services are caring for Margaret's arrangements and her family. Margaret was born to James Carman and Eva (Fischer) Carman on March 20, 1933, in Yarmouth Iowa. She grew up and attended school in Denmark, Iowa. After graduation, she attended one year of nursing school. On June 23, 1951, Margaret was united in marriage to Marvin Thomas in Keosauqua, Iowa. Together, they worked side by side farming, milking cows, and for over 30 years as owner/operators of the Letts Phillips 66 filling station. They both continued to serve the community many years after retirement from the filling station. Service to the community and helping others was a cornerstone of Margaret's life. A short list of activities include: United Methodist Church and Open-Door Sunday School Class, T.T.T., Federated Club, Grandview/Letts Lions, Eastern Star, Louisa County First Responders, 52 years as treasurer of Letts Fire Board where she was honored as an honorary member, and Lutheran Home Care Center serving as a Med-aide for over 20 years. She cherished her church family. Being with friends and family was always a blessing for Margaret. All were greeted with smiles and hugs. On those special occasions where family was present, a friendly game of cards always seemed to break out. Many of the participants in those games would say that Margaret was tenacious and seldom lost. Other hobbies and interest included sewing quilts, embroidery, reading, gardening, canning and visiting. It was a matter of pride to take her projects to the county fair winning several awards for her efforts. Margaret is survived by daughter Anita (Mike) Stineman, (Letts, Iowa) sons Bruce (Sue) Thomas (Algona, Iowa) and Melvin (Rita) Thomas (Warsaw, Illinois), brother Dale (Louise) Carman (Stony Brook, New York), Jim (Naomi) Carman, (Crestview, Florida), sister Marie (Gregg) Bassett, (Osborn, Maine), seven grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband, Marvin, 2018, infant daughter Norma Lee, son Jeff Thomas, 2021, parents James and Eva Carman, and siblings Glen Carman and David Carman.
