Meg was a renaissance woman, who left the world a better place through her intellect, curiosity, passion, loyalty, love, and laughter. Born November 6, 1955 in Baltimore, MD, she spent her childhood years in KY, IN, and Champaign, IL, graduating from Champaign Central High School in 1973 as an Illinois State Scholar. She graduated cum laude from Coe College, Cedar Rapids, IA in 1977, with a B.A. in Economics and American Studies. She was recognized in the Academic Honors Society and was a four-year letter-winner in tennis. She had her own campus radio show, and was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. Meg's lifelong love of travel began with a college study program in Spain through the Experiment in International Living Program. But Meg was not just a "traveler"; she was an insightful international explorer, an ambassador of curiosity, good will, and peace. She visited multiple countries, jotting thoughtful diaries on what she observed and experienced. She was conversational in Spanish and French and worked hard to improve her proficiency. Meg's career was as diverse as her personal interests and passions. Following college she worked in Madrid, Spain, and as a U.S. Senate staff assistant in Washington, D.C. Meg entered the financial services industry in 1979, and was an Enrolled Agent, Certified Financial Planner, and Registered Representative. She formed her own income tax preparation and consulting business in 1984, serving her beloved clients right up to her final illness. She served on the Board of the CA Society of Tax Consultants and was President of the San Gabriel Valley Chapter at the time of her death. Meg's lifelong interest in fine art led her to owning an art gallery and custom picture framing business in Old Town Pasadena, where she participated in many community activities, including the Board of Directors of the Old Pasadena Business and Professional Association. Meg approached new interests wholeheartedly, demonstrating a joy of life and passion for constant learning, including both Astrology and Astronomy. She studied, took classes, attended retreats, and loved completing astrological charts and reading tarot cards for friends. She loved film, especially foreign and old films, and kept copious notes as she watched them. Meg explored multiple approaches to health and wellness and spiritual healing. She was an avid reader and commentator, debated energetically and knowledgeably, and defied "categorization" in her analyses of the world. Meg cultivated lifelong and diverse friendships in all of the communities she engaged in. Friends loved receiving her cards and letters which were full of activities and reflections from her multifaceted life, as well as her blessings and heartfelt prayers for well-being. Meg was her own person, a lover of life, unique in the Universe, quirky and strong-willed, loyal and generous, expansively spiritual, principled and courageous. We are filled with joy for having shared her life. Meg was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Margaret Hickman, and her brother Phil. Obituary: Los Angeles Times, 8/8/2021
