McBride Cemetery Book, Page 196, 197 There was an old Presbyterian Cemetery in the City of Hillsboro that was the second cemetery in Hillsboro, which was established May 29, 1811. In November 28, 1908, the cemetery having become an eyesore to the community through neglect and ill-use of the grounds, the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsborough, brought a suit in the Common Pleas Court of Highland County for an order to sell the real estate, alleging said cemetery contained two acres, two roods, and fourteen perches of land. A petition went out and the church alleged "said real estate was formerly used as a Cemetery, but no interments have been made therein for a great many years..."That during the past few years the bodies of a large number of the unknown dead, have been removed by friends and relatives of the deceased; that at no time was burial permits or privileges issued and if any such privileges were held by any person or persons, no money consideration therefore ever passed to plaintiff. The court ordered the bodies removed and "re-interred in some other cemetery" together with the monuments, head stones and markers. The Commissioners' report to the court dated March 30, 1909, reads, in part: "That he caused public notice to be given by publication in each of the three county papers published in Hillsboro, Ohio to the friends and relatives who desired to remove the bodies of persons interred in the old cemetery, within the time fixed by the order of the court, and that after which time all bodies remaining would be disinterred and reinterred in the Hillsboro Cemetery, together with monuments, head stones, etc. Among the many names shown are the following: Samuel A. Lyle (In the caption the name is written S. A. Lyle; Infant daughter of J. B. & M. A. Gamble; Elizabeth M., wife of Samuel Lyle; Peoria M. Lyle and John C. Lyle---along with many, many others.
