Margaret Ann Newell was born in Woodward, Dallas county, Iowa August 18, 1858 and departed this life at her home in Atwood, Kansas August 9, 1932 at the age of 73 years, 11 months and 22 days. Margaret Ann Newell was born in Woodward, Dallas county, Iowa August 18, 1858 and departed this life at her home in Atwood, Kansas August 9, 1932 at the age of 73 years, 11 months and 22 days. She was united in marriage to John Thomas November 23, 1874 in Iowa where they lived until 1879, at which early date they came to Rawlins county, Kansas which has been their home ever since. Mr. Thomas preceded her in death December 1, 1919. To this union were born eleven children, three of whom preceded her in death. The surviving children are: Richard A. Thomas of Valley Junction, Iowa; Henry of Casper, Wyoming; Ed and John of Ludell, Kans.; Mrs. Nora Niefert, Colorado Springs; Colo.; Kitty Frakes of Culbertson, Nebr.; Mrs. Lina Newport of Yuma, Colo., and Mary Rebber of Eldorado, Ark. Mrs. Thomas was a Christian and early associated herself with the Methodist Church and later with the Church of God at Cornell. She sought to make the world better by having lived in it. She was a good neighbor and a loving wife and mother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Besides the above mentioned she leaves three brothers and three sister, 24 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by Re. J.N. Underhill at Cornell, assisted by Rev. Jeune, after which the body was laid to rest in the Cornell cemetery.
