Mrs. Margaret Hux, 93-year old grandmother who suffered severe head injuries in the furniture-truck accident at the corner of West Main and Marion streets, August 19, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry Graham, 321 North Ash street, at 7:15 AM today. Mrs. Hux was dismissed from Ottumwa hospital on Monday morning following the accident. Her granddaughter, Margaret Smithhart, who was also injured in the accident, was dismissed the day following the accident, and her daughter, Mrs. LeRoy Thompson, who was riding with her mother in the cab of the truck when it turned over, left the hospital the same day as her mother. All three women suffered head injuries. The driver of the truck, Ray Clause of Sheldahi, escaped with minor injuries. The truck turned over against the large wooden sign boards in front of the Curran Coal Co. at the Main and Marion intersection after running wild down Marion street hill. Surviving Mrs. Hux are her daughters, Mrs Margaret Gee, Mrs. Rozetta Thompson and Mrs. Nora Graham, all of Ottumwa and one sister, Mrs. Sarah Scruble of Des Moines The body has been removed to the Carroll Reece mortuary pending the completion of funeral arrangement. Mrs. Hux was the widow of Taylor Hux. The entire family had been former residents of Ottumwa and at the time the accident occurred they were returning from near Colfax, where they had been living for some time, to make their home with relatives in Ottumwa.
