Burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery, also known as Ingwersen Cemetery, five miles north of Elvira, Iowa. M. Margaret Berg was born on February 28, 1916, in Preston, Iowa, the daughter of Justus and Margaretha (Mohr) Berg. She was a graduate of Preston High School and earned a Two-Year Elementary Teaching Certificate from Iowa State Teachers College in 1935. She taught in a one-room school near Andover, Iowa, for six years. She married Vernon Betle on August 22, 1938, in Preston; he later died in 1991. In 1941, they began farming together, initially near Goose Lake, Iowa, and later in Lost Nation. When not farming, they traveled extensively throughout the United States and internationally to six continents. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lost Nation. She enjoyed quilting, reading and playing cards with her friends. She leaves to cherish memories three daughters, Marilyn (JE) Bickford of Onslow, Iowa, Wanda (Ray) Bahde of Summerfield, Fla., and Suzanne (James) Yager of Oakville, Ontario, Canada; two granddaughters, Jennifer and Stephanie Yager; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, two sisters, her husband and one infant son, Lawrence.
