She was predeceased by her husband Peter and is survived by her sister Katherine Wittenberg, her four children Martha (George), Milton (Verna), Arthur (Mary Ann), and Anne (Don) along with eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Peter and is survived by her sister Katherine Wittenberg, her four children Martha (George), Milton (Verna), Arthur (Mary Ann), and Anne (Don) along with eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Margaret was born as Margaret Boschman on April 18, 1910 in an idyllic and peaceful community of Mennonite settlers in southern Russia. This calm was shattered in 1917 with the outbreak of the Russian Revolution. Life then became a terrifying struggle for survival as Margaret's family was forced to abandon their homes and flee with little or no possessions. After living a nomadic life for several years, her family, along with hundreds of others, eventually immigrated to Canada in 1925 where they settled in the Namaka area of southern Alberta. Margaret worked as a domestic for several years then married Peter Willms in 1931. Life had become stable for this young couple as they had four children over the next fifteen years, operated a trucking business and were in the process of purchasing a square mile of farmland. Margaret's life was again shattered in 1946 when her husband was killed in an agricultural accident. She was left with four young children, no resources to carry on the trucking business, and a very uncertain ability to purchase the farm. Her perseverance and commitment to her children sustained her as she struggled in near poverty to purchase the farm and provide for her children. In addition to the perseverance, she had an unmatched optimistic view of life and was always able to see the sunshine when all others saw only the clouds. She remained on the farm and was a tower of strength and inspiration to everyone she met. She eventually turned the farm over to Milton, her oldest son, although she remained in her 1939 rustic farmhouse until 2007. All of her grandchildren were touched and inspired by their grandmother. Visits to grandma's farmhouse became defining moments in their lives and such visits continued even as they became adults. It was a place of peacefulness, serenity, and inspiration for them. Her departing has left a huge void in the hearts of her entire family and in the hearts of her many friends. Memorial Services held on Monday, June 16, 2008 at Strathmore Alliance Church.
