Helt Obermann, 98, of 15 Sharman Place, Fort Madison, died at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at the Montrose Health Center in Montrose. Born Oct. 15, 1901, in Des Moines County, she was the daughter of George and Charlotte Staff Helt. She married Charles F. Obermann on Sept. 1, 1932, near Augusta. He died Dec. 27, 1985. Born Oct. 15, 1901, in Des Moines County, she was the daughter of George and Charlotte Staff Helt. She married Charles F. Obermann on Sept. 1, 1932, near Augusta. He died Dec. 27, 1985. Mrs. Obermann was a homemaker and the first woman county superintendent of schools in Des Moines County. She lived in Oklahoma from 1947 to 1986, when she returned to Iowa. She was a member of Santa Fe United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of PEO. Survivors include one daughter, Charlotte Sullivan of Fort Madison; one grandson; one sister, Georgia Helt Henn of Glen Rock, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will begin at noon Thursday at King-Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison. The funeral for Mrs. Obermann will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at King-Lynk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kathleen Danforth officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Danville. A memorial has been established for Santa Fe Methodist Church.
