Read More	Margaret Cleo "Peggy" Allen, 88, died Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at the White Oak Estates, 400 Webber Rd., Spartanburg, SC. Born in Pacolet Mills, SC, on August 26, 1921, to Mattie Jane (Holmes) Allen and John Henry Allen, and spent most of her life in her hometown, that she loved so much. Peggy was a graduate of Pacolet High School, and was a 1942 graduate of Winthrop College. After graduating from Winthrop, she began her 38 year teaching career, returning to teach in the same school, and the same class room in which she had been as a student in the Pacolet Mills Elementary school, followed by White Stone Elementary and Fort Mill Elementary, retiring in 1982 after completing more than 25 years teaching in the Spartanburg City School System. Peggy loved to travel. During her active retirement years, she was a member of three travel clubs, and was able to visit 49 states, Canada, Mexico, and was wishing for a bridge that would allow her to visit Hawaii. Survivors include her brother, Bob and his wife Mary; sister-in-law, Ethel Martin Allen of Pendleton, SC; nieces, Barbara Roper of Charleston, SC, Hazel Murray of Augusta, GA, Paula Gray of Concord, NC, Janet Kellogg of Charlotte, NC, Novelyn Williams of Gastonia, NC, Kay Allen of Gastonia, NC, Judy Miles of Gastonia, NC and Angela Allen of Gastonia, NC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Rev. Clyde Allen, Harry Allen and John Leon Allen. A service in celebration of her life was held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at the Montgomery Memorial United Methodist Church, Pacolet Mills, SC with Rev. Kelly Lee Gallamore officiating. Internment was private. The family expressed their heartfelt thanks to the White Oak Estates family for their love and support for Peggy while she was a resident. In lieu of flowers, memorials could be made to Montgomery Memorial United Methodist Church, PO Box 427, Pacolet Mills, SC 29373 or to a Hospice of your choice.
