She worked in Illinois and Boston developing church programs to meet the needs. She earned a masters' degree at Case Western Reserve College. During WWII she worked overseas with the American Red Cross, serving in hospitals in Persia (Iran) and North Africa. Returning home, she worked for the Red Cross in Northern California and for several other social agencies.
