She united with the Methodist Episcopal church in 1906. Attended and graduated from the Burrton High School in 1911. After teaching three years at Burns, she attended Normal College at Emporia, Kansas from which she received a Primary Proficiency Certificate. The following year she taught at Protection, Kansas. Read More	From The Burrton Graphic dated Dec. 19, 1918; Obituary - Margaret Dorothy Hanselman was born December 16, 1891 at Burrton, Harvey Co., Kansas, departed this life December 12, 1918, aged 26 years, 11 months and 26 days. She united with the Methodist Episcopal church in 1906. Attended and graduated from the Burrton High School in 1911. After teaching three years at Burns, she attended Normal College at Emporia, Kansas from which she received a Primary Proficiency Certificate. The following year she taught at Protection, Kansas. It was here she met Mr. Neal H. Simonds to whom she was married September 4, 1917. They made their home near Protection until the past month when with her husband she came to live on the home farm in order to care for her aged father, her mother having preceded him July 19, 1918. Her teaching was highly successful and appreciated both by pupils and patrons alike. She was a great lover of music and art both of which she cultivated. She is survived by her father, husband and sister Frances V. Pinkston of Cedar Point, Kans., and many other relatives and friends. The funeral services were conducted at the home Saturday December 14, 1918 by Rev. D. C. Shields. Internment was made in the Burrton Cemetery. NOTE: TRAGIC TIMES FOR THE HANSELMAN FAMILY IN 1918. - Dorothy died of the Spanish Flu Epidemic of 1918. She was three months pregnant. She was attending to her father David C Hanselman due to his being ill with Cancer. - Her mother Frances Elizabeth Ayers Hanselman had died that same year on 19 July 1918 of Pernicious Anemia.
