Baird, 92, of Chetopa, Kansas, died at 4:23 p.m., Monday, March 24, 2008, at Chetopa Manor where she had resided for several years. She was born August 6, 1915, in Boise, Idaho, to Harvey Alexander and Bertha Mae (Ihrig) Graue. As a child, she attended Lockard School, north of Bartlett, Kansas, until her family moved into Bartlett from the farm. Baird, 92, of Chetopa, Kansas, died at 4:23 p.m., Monday, March 24, 2008, at Chetopa Manor where she had resided for several years. She was born August 6, 1915, in Boise, Idaho, to Harvey Alexander and Bertha Mae (Ihrig) Graue. As a child, she attended Lockard School, north of Bartlett, Kansas, until her family moved into Bartlett from the farm. She later attended Labette County Community High School in Altamont graduating in 1933 with a two-year teaching certificate. She attended Pittsburg State University during the summers and at night, first receiving her B.S. degree and later her M.S. degree. At the age of 17, she started her teaching career at Lockard School No. 28, a one-room schoolhouse with all eight grades. She moved to the Ellis School No. 45 northwest of Bartlett when Lockard School was consolidated in 1951, and then taught at Bartlett until she retired in 1981. She and Perry Baird were married May 7, 1937. They farmed many years south of Bartlett and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States with friends. He preceded her in death on April 5, 2001. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Oswego, KS, and a life-member of the Order of The Eastern Star Excelsior No. 86 in Chetopa, KS. Survivors include two brothers, Linn E. Graue and wife, Peggy of Coffeyville, KS, and Richard "Dick" Graue and wife, Fran of Baxter Springs, KS; a sister-in-law, Corrine Graue of Oswego, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Harvey Alexander Graue; and a sister, Mae E. Peters. Funeral services are scheduled for March 27, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church in Oswego, Kansas. The family committal will be in Lake Creek Cemetery, rural Bartlett, Kansas under the direction of the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church in Oswego, KS. *********************
