Read More	Margaret Ellen (Smith) Albertson Obituary Margaret Ellen (Smith) Albertson quietly passed away at the age of 91, at her daughter, Linda’s residence on Thursday, November 16, 2017, in Modesto, Stanislaus Co., California. Margaret was born August 21, 1926 in Rapid City, Pennington Co., South Dakota. She was the youngest daughter of Lydia May (Lewis) Canfield and Ira Homer Smith, now deceased. She had two sisters and five brothers who also preceded her in death: Alice Bell (Canfield) Frank (1903-1988), Charles Alonzo Canfield (1905-2004), George Freeman Canfield (1908-1973), William Edward Canfield (1910-1976), Betty Lou (Smith) Robertson (1918-1991), Andrew Clever Smith (1920-1920), and Thomas Lloyd Smith (1921-1921). In her youth, Margaret became friends with Rose Albertson at church camp in 1940; they would remain lifelong friends. Later, Margaret would graduate from Woodland High School in 1944. She met her future husband, and love of her life, James Leslie Albertson, while on a double date with Jim’s sister Rose and her fiancé. When Jim was courting Margaret, he would send her postcards instead of letters. On one occasion, he gave a postcard to his brother John to mail to Margaret. John then proceeded with his friend Delbert Bochart to modify the postcard to include the statement, “I’ve got something very important to say to you.” So, when Jim next came to the Smith residence, Mr. Smith, Margaret’s father, excitedly met him at the door and pulled Jim into the house (anticipating a marriage proposal). However, Jim’s actual proposal did not occur until sometime later. Margaret and James Albertson were married on January 29, 1948 in Vancouver, Washington. James preceded her in death on October 17, 2010 at home in Ridgefield, Washington. Together they were married 62 years and had four children. During the course of her lifetime, Margaret was Secretary of the Cowlitz County Fire District; she held office at the VFW Post 1927 and volunteered at the voting poles in and around the Woodland, Washington area. While married to Jim, they lived in various locations in Washington State: Woodland, Castle Rock, Vancouver, and Ridgefield. She was a devout Christian all her life, a loving wife, skilled homemaker, and wonderful mother. Margaret and Jim were very active in their church and instilled loving, Christian principals in all their children. Margaret is survived by her four children: Gale Keith Albertson and wife Eileen (Ames) Albertson of Modesto, California; Linda Karen Albertson of Modesto, California; Diana Marie (Albertson) and husband Tim Fike of Lynnwood, Washington; Mark Leslie Albertson and wife Ruth Ann (Easter) of Burleson, Texas. Margaret is also survived by her grandchildren: Darin Albertson of Midland, Texas; Natalie (Albertson) Inman and husband Loren and their son Judah of Orting, Washington; Zakary Fike and wife Carmen (Olsen) of Lynnwood, Washington; Jeremy Fike and wife Maryanne (Kheraity) of Clyde Hill, Washington; Ryan Rainbolt and wife Momoko (Berg) of Santa Ana, California; Emma Easter-Albertson of Burleson, Texas; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; in-laws; nieces and nephews. ________________________________________________________________ Franklin and Downs Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Albertson family. Margaret’s Memorial Service has not yet been determined. Her final resting place is at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver, Clark Co., Washington. She will be buried next to her beloved husband, James Leslie Albertson. In lieu of flowers, you are welcome to make donations to Crosspoint Community Church or Medical Ambassadors International.
