She passed away October 16, 2012 at the Klein Care Center in Burlington, IA. Born in Colorado, Margaret moved with her parents to Texas for a few short years until the death of her father in 1937. Mother and daughter moved back to Mabel's original home in Wayne County IA, joining numerous relatives to watch over them. Margaret lived with her Grandmother Jennie Mae (Williams) Gard in Corydon with periodic (gas rations) visits from Mabel who supported the family as a nurse in various southern Iowa Hospitals. Margaret was a fun-loving, outgoing, creative and intelligent young woman. She attended Corydon schools through High School and, after graduating from Thompson Beauty School in Des Moines, she married Robert Lee Mumma of Allerton, IA at the Corydon Methodist Church on August 24, 1952. The couple made their home in Ames, IA for two years while Bob attended Iowa State University and Margaret worked as a cosmetologist. After a brief stint in Manly, IA for Bob's student teaching, the couple arrived in Earlham, IA for Bob's first teaching position and the arrival of their first child, Margo Elaine. Two brothers followed while in Earlham - Roger Lee and Larry Joe Mumma. Margaret considered delivering three children in 27 months a great accomplishment despite the many diapers! Margaret moved back to Wayne County with her family for Bob's position with Cambria-Corydon HS in 1960. She was a loving and active mother, a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Corydon Methodist Church. In 1963, Margaret landed in rural Lineville, IA as a Farmer's Wife where she led Girl Scouts, was active in the Lineville Methodist Church and gardened extensively. In 1969, Margaret returned to Corydon opening The Garden Beauty Salon, joined the Eden Garden Club, began a long love of artistic painting, and was active in Corydon Betterment and theater productions. In the mid-1970's, Margaret suffered a marginally successful back surgery that eventually deteriorated into life-in- a-wheelchair. It was at this time Margaret met Jesus in a new way, joined the Corydon Assembly Church and continued painting. Margaret is survived by her children: Margo (Bill) of Minnetonka, MN; Roger (Debra) of North English, IA; Larry (Kathryn) of Burlington, IA; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and former husband.
