IN/ NC/ PA OBITUARY for Margaret Dennis of Meade Co, SD in Mar 1940 (from descendant Kate Dennis in 1997) "DEATH COMES TO MARGARET DENNIS MONDAY MORNING: The death of Mrs. Margaret Dennis occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ona Timmons, 1312 Davenport Street, Sturgis, on Monday morning, March 25, at 8:30 o'clock, after a short illness at the age of 89 years and 15 days. "Margaret E. Bray was born in Laporte, Ind., March 10, 1851. She was married to Henry C. Dennis at Prophetstown, Ill, Mar. 10, 1867. They came to Dakota in 1902, settling in Meade County near Red Owl. Seven children blessed their home, three of whom died in infancy, and one daughter, Mrs. R. E. Findley died on Sept. 12, 1915. "Three children survive her: Mrs. Ona Timmons of Sturgis, Edwin C. Dennis of Orondo, Wash., and Walter H. Dennis of Red Owl, S.Dak. "These, with five grandchildren and five great grandchildren mourn her going, but take comfort in her victorious Christian life. A great company of friends testify to her beautiful Christian character and to her worth as a friend and neighbor. "She was a member of the Methodist church for many years, joining the Sturgis church at once on coming here to live, about 20 years ago. "Funeral services were held at the Methodist church at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 28, conducted by Rev. Ralph E. Rich, the pastor. Interment was at Red Owl, S. Dak, beside her husband, and where they had made their early home on coming to South Dakota. "The F. O. Jolley Funeral Home had charge of the burial."
