She returned to this profession around 1942 when the family moved into Seymour. Margaret had very poor eyesight and before the end of her career she was almost blind (she had inoperable cataracts); however, she could still do her job at the switchboard as she knew where every phone number was by touch (Seymour is a very small town). Margaret definitely had a green thumb. Besides the flowers planted in the yard and garden, she would have violets blooming in her windows all year. She had a large garden. Faris. “We lived on a farm southwest of Seymour for 19 years, then east of town for 9 years, until my husband had to give up farming because of ill health. We now live in town. “We have two children, Mrs. Tommy E. Brown of Davenport and Richard I. Faris of Newton.” ___________________________________________________________ Margaret Faris Obituary: Margaret Emaline Sager Faris was born June 4, 1899 in Wayne County, Iowa, the daughter of Marion and Anna Belle (Holstein) Sager. She departed this life on January 31, 1994 at the Corydon Care Center at the age of 94 years 7 months 27 days. She had been a resident of the care center for four months because she was unable to stay in her home. She had broken her hip in December and developed pneumonia in January. She was united in marriage to Everett I. Faris on December 12, 1922 [actual date Dec 22] and to this union four children were born. Survivors include her daughter, Dorothy Dean and husband, Tommy Brown; her son, Richard Ivan Faris, all of Seymour; five grandchildren, Dale Brown and wife, Vicki of Charleston, S.C.; Robert Brown and wife, Carla of Williamsburg; Sandra Jones and husband, Mike of Bloomfield; Ivalyn Faris of Des Moines and Jocelyn Faris of Glen Ellyn, Ill. Also eight great-grandchildren, Kelly and Jason Brown of Elmhurst, Ill.; Michelle, Nicole, Chase and Chance Jones of Bloomfield; and Ashley and Rebecca Brown of Williamsburg. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Everett; two sons in infancy; a great-grandson, Ryan Thomas Brown in infancy; one brother, Lester; and two half-brothers, Ira and Bart Sager. She had been a member of the Seymour United Methodist Church for many years. Margaret lived all her life around the Seymour and Promise City area. She and Everett farmed many years and moved into Seymour around 1950 [actual date: 1942]. She worked for the telephone company before her marriage, then worked for them again after she moved into Seymour until it went dial. She loved working in her garden and canning and took great pride in her flowers. Funeral services were held Friday, February 4, 1994 at 1:30 p.m. from the Randolph Funeral Home in Seymour with Rev. Susan LeBlanc officiating. The hymns "In the Garden" and "Amazing Grace" were sung by Milton Albertson, accompanied by Bernace Kerwin, pianist. Pallbearers were Bob Brown, Mike Jones, Farris Wade, Wayne Couchman, Dean Sager, and Bob Schaffner. Interment was in the Southlawn Cemetery in Seymour. A memorial was established to the Seymour Community Center. __________________________________________________________
