Description	:	Margaret H. Richards, age 91, was born May 20, 1921 in Bismark, North Dakota to Shirley Dare Welch and Claude William Chappell. She was a resident of Pend Oreille County for 74 years and died of natural causes January 2, 2013 in Newport. Wa. On January 8, 1938 she married Harold William Richards in Newport, Wa. Richards, age 91, was born May 20, 1921 in Bismark, North Dakota to Shirley Dare Welch and Claude William Chappell. She was a resident of Pend Oreille County for 74 years and died of natural causes January 2, 2013 in Newport. Wa. On January 8, 1938 she married Harold William Richards in Newport, Wa. She attended a one room school in South Dakota before moving to Bonners Ferry, Idaho at age 12. There she attended school until her marriage at age 16. She enrolled in Newport High School in January 1957 and graduated that year at age 36. She began working for the City of Newport in the spring of 1957 as a Clerk Typist and soon after began working for the Department of Agriculture, Kaniksu National Forest, Newport Ranger District in Newport. She advanced to Personal Management and retired in 1981 after the District became part of the Colville National Forest. She was a 50+ year Member of Zillah Chaper Order of Eastern Star and over 40 years as a member of United Church of Christ fellowship in Newport. She occupied many offices in both, was Past Matron of Zillah Chapter and Deputy Instructor in Washinton State. She served on the Finance Commitee, refreshments and other services for the United Church group. She is survived by her children, Harold E. Richards (Judith), Underwood, WA and Sylvia A. Richards, Newport, WA. Grandchildren: Gwendolyn Richards, Underwood, WA, Janet Tachell (Dan), Elk/Camden, WA, Jacqueline Hodge (Rob), Sammamish, WA, James E. Foster, (Debi),Grandview, WA, Tracy Estrellado (Jose) Moses Lake, Wa, Thomas M. Foster, Seattle, WA, and JoEllyn Richards-Martel (Ron), Pueblo, CO. Great Grandchildren: Eric Smithson (Leslie) and Amanda Zahller (Nathan), Spokane, Jeremiah Estrellado, Kirkland, WA, Jordan Estrellado, Cheney, WA and Jennalyn Estrellado, Moses Lake, WA, Thomas C. Foster of Rawlins, WY, Matthew and Nickolas Foster, Grandview, WA, Eli Hodge, Sammamish, WA, Thadeous Richards-Martel, Lemmon. South Dakota and Willow and Emett V.P. Richards-Martel of Pueblo, CO. Great Great Grandsons: Jeremy and Weston Smithson, Spokane, WA. Many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold W. Richards in 1997, her parents and 7 siblings. A Celebration of her life will take place in May 2013 with specifics announced at a later date. Memorials may be made to United Church of Christ, Newport, WA or Newport Alumni Scholarship Fund.
