Such was the case of one of the grandest women we ever knew, Mrs. McKnight. Margaret Haun was born in Mercer county, Pennsylvania, November 8, 1838. She died at the home of her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Parker Stephens, near Rising, at midnight on February 9, 1926, at the ripe old age of 87 years, 3 months and 3 days. She was married to Robert McKnight, on New Years day, when 19 years old, at Mercer, Pennsylvania. To them were born seven children, four boys and three girls, four of whom survive their mother, Mrs. E. P. Stephens, Mrs. Ella Whitmore, George S. and Irvin R. McKnight, all of whom live in the vicinity. Her husband passed away in 1882. Mrs. McKnight, with her husband and family came to Nebraska and settled on a farm southwest of David City about a mile, in 1879. After the death of her husband, she moved to David City in 1891, and has made her home here ever since except when she was with her children. She was a member of the Methodist church and a faithful attendant whenever she could get there. Mrs. McKnight was a true Christian woman, believing and practicing her religion wherever she was. She was loved by everybody who knew her, and was a mother to all. Besides her four children she leaves two brothers and 16 grandchildren to mourn her death. The funeral services were held from the Methodist church Friday, February 12, at 1:30 o'clock, conducted by her pastor, Rev. T. W. Parkin and the remains laid away in the David City cemetery. The pall bearers were Ora and Robert Whitmore, Ivan Stephens, Roy McKnight, Nick Smith and Frank Minick. CARD OF THANKS We wish to extend our sincere thanks to all friends and the neighbors who so kindly gave us assistance during the illness and death of our dear mother and grandmother. Especially do we feel grateful to the members of the I.O.O.F. and others who so thoughtfully provided the beautiful floral offerings. Last Rites for Mrs. Margaret McKnight, Who Died February 10. Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret McKnight, who died Wednesday, February 10, at the home of her son-in-law, Parker Stephens, near Bellwood, following illness of some months, were held in St. Luke's M.E. church, David City, at 1:30 p.m. Friday, February 12, conducted by the pastor, Rev. T. W. Parkin. Singing was by a quartet, Mrs. Charles Sinclair, Mrs. Guy Walling, John Eberly and A. L. Hughes. The pallbearers were Ivan Stephens of St. Edwards, Robert Whitmore of Central City, Ora Whitmore of Spalding and Roy McKnight of David City, grandsons of Mrs. McKnight, and Frank Minnick and Nick Schmitt. Burial was in the David City cemetery. Coming from away to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Whitmore and Mrs. Blanche Powell of Central City, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Stephens of St. Edwards, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Chapin of McCool Junction, Ora Whitmore of Spalding and Mrs. Ruby Boyer of Council Bluffs, Iowa. Mrs. McKnight was aged 87 years, 3 months and 1 day. Her maiden name was Margaret Haun and she was born November 8, 1838, in Mercer county, Pennsylvania. There she was married to Robert McKnight and they came to Nebraska and Butler county in 1879, locating on a farm southwest of David City. Mr. McKnight passed away in 1882. Surviving Mrs. McKnight are two sons and two daughters, Mrs. Mary A. Stephens of Bellwood, G. S. McKnight of Rising City and I. R. McKnight and Mrs. Ella J. Whitmore of David City. She also leaves two brothers, Simeon Haun of Tipton, Iowa, and Adam Haun of Transfer, Pa. Mrs. McKnight moved to David City a number of years ago. She had been a faithful member of the Methodist church since 1882.
