Margaret was born to Arthur and Martha (Lesmeister) Cromwell on March 31, 1927 in Draper, SD. She was the second oldest of eight children. She married Albert Hansen on May 1, 1943 in Pukwana, SD. They lived in Draper, SD until 1957. They had five children (one deceased). They moved to Rapid City in 1957. Margaret worked at Ben Franklin in downtown Rapid City. She walked to work every day. She then worked at various grocery stores in Rapid City. She last worked at K-Mart Foods as head cashier until they closed. In April 1971, Margaret married Chuck (Clarence) Hansen. They enjoyed three years of fun; including snowmobiling, hunting, and camping. Margaret enjoyed many activities. She was an avid bowler for many years, bowled on a couple league, and carried a darn good average. She volunteered at the YMCA in leading water exercise in aerobics. She loved to read, garden, walk, and travel. She walked the property almost daily. You could see her from far off, wearing her blue winter parka, using a walking stick, and having her faithful dog Sandy by her side. That walking stick is making the final journey with her! She visited most areas of this world of ours—from Alaska to Australia, and China to Europe. Great moments would have been: co-piloting a plane over the Arctic Circle while visiting Alaska, cruising through the Panama Canal, or zip-lining in the Rocky Mountains. She was a member of St. Therese Church and the Minneluzahan Senior Center. Margaret was a very good cook. Her chocolate chip cookies were the best. The grandchildren could always tell who made the cookies. Her caramel rolls were a necessity when there was a blizzard roaring outside. That tradition continues today. Margaret was a pillar of the family, in strength, in character, and in faith. She was a cancer survivor, having survived uterus cancer at the age of 24. She always had a positive attitude and joy in her life. Survivors include her children, Art Hansen, Spearfish, SD, Ken Hansen, Rapid City, SD, Janice (John) Deming, Box Elder, SD, and Doug Hansen, Rapid City, SD. Survivors include her three step-daughters, Vicki (Ron) Zacher, Lead, SD, Penny Hansen, Spearfish, SD, and Patty (Alan) Brown, South Carolina. Survivors include a sister, Bev (Tom) Maples, Choteau, MT, and a brother, Richard (Nancy) Cromwell, Silt, CO. She leaves behind five grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, four step great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death were her husband, Chuck (Clarence) in 1974; her ex-husband Albert in 1978; her daughter Madeline Kay in 1946; her parents; three brothers; and two sisters. Honorary pallbearers are all of her grandchildren. A memorial has been established to St. Therese The Little Flower Catholic Church.
