Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Merrill Muller, Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Margaret Helen Gunderson was born Nov. 25, 1921, in Sioux City, the daughter of August "Gus" and Alma (Suddith) Spaustat. She was a lifelong resident of Sioux City. She graduated from Central High School in 1940. She married Arndt I. Gunderson on July 16, 1945, in Omaha, Neb. Margaret was a member of the Nazarene faith, who believed faithfully in the Lord. She enjoyed her working life as a salesclerk at a few grocery stores. Later, she became executive secretary at Planned Parenthood, where she worked for 12 years. Margaret was also a loving caregiver to many elderly people in the area for many years. She enjoyed many things in life, gardening, puzzles, a little time at the Argosy, people watching, spending time preparing meals, talking to friends and truly enjoyed her life, traveling and visiting family and friends. Her life touched many people. She raised seven children, who adored her and will miss her greatly. She had a beautiful heart and smile that brought the world to love her like no other. She touched many people who were drawn to her positive attitude and caring ways that made friends become family. Left to cherish the memories are three sons, Michael and his wife, Barbara Sue of Sioux City, Arny and his wife, Velma of Axtell, Neb. and Douglas of Sioux City; four daughters, Carlajane Hodge of Des Moines, Iowa, Marcia Fischer and her husband, John of South Sioux City, Alma Gunderson of Sioux City and Lillian Carlson of Sioux City; two sisters-in-law, Rose Spaustat of Eaton, Colo. and Pat Patterson of Pittsburg, Mo.; a brother-in-law, Gerald Westadt of Rockford, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews. She was a dear grandmother to 12 grandchildren and their spouses; four step grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 12 step great-grandchildren; also many true friends who became her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; ex-husband, Arndt; three brothers, Harold, Gus and Toby; two sisters, Dorothy Wellsandt and Ruth Westadt; a son-in-law, Robert Hodge; and precious great-grandson, Johnathan Eugene Fischer.
