Hope. MARGARET HOPE was a daughter of James Hope, by his first wife, Anne or Nancy (called Annie by HFHC) McCrockey. She was born in Harford County, Maryland sometime around 1717 and died in York County, South Carolina, circa 1778. MARGARET married Hugh Allison in Chester County, Pennsylvania. In 1769 they "went to South Carolina with her father, settled in York County." She is named in her father's will of 1776 as Margaret Allison and was to receive the sum of five Shillings Sterling. HFHC notes they "went to South Carolina with her father, settled in York County, South Carolina." The will of Hugh Allison, of York County, dated 19 Jan 1799, did not name his wife, indicating she had predeceased him. The will named his children as Robert, Margaret, Rosanah, Martha, Catharine, Alexander and Hugh, and was witnessed by Isaac Hope, Catren Hope, and Robert Love. The father of James Hope is said to be Thomas Hope of Hopetown Scotland, who died October 1, 1646. Contributed by Robert Allison Ragan, a descendant.
