Arlington News Thurs 11/17/1941 pg 1 Mrs Margaret Miller is Summoned The friends Mrs Miller had met along her way thru a long life were saddened to hear of her passing. Her home was a house of friendship, her kind extension of hospitality was sincere and generous. She seemed to impart some of her own fineness to those about her. She was left an impression like that of seeing some loving old classie painting. Margaret Miller was the oldest daughter of Alexander and Elizabeth McFarlane and was born Deceber 7 1867 in Wisconsin. When a child of three or four years she moved to Iowa with her parents, settling in Scott Township. Here she grew to womanhood and spent most of her life. On February 13, 1879 she was united in marriage to Allen Miller who proceeded her in death thirty three years ago. Some thirty years ago, she went to Oelwein and made a home for her mother, who passed away to her reward in 1928. For the last ten or twelve yeras she had made her home at 8-4 St NW. Failing health made necessary that she should not live alone and she was taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs John Watson of Aurora about two weeks ago. Here she quietly slipped away on November 20 1941 at the age of more than four score years. Mrs Miller was for many years an active and faithful member of the Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Woman's Bible Class. She was Supt of the Home Department of the Sunday School and in that capacity brought cheer to many of the sick and shut-ins of the congregation. She was also active in the Woman's Missionary Society and the Ladies Aid, serving as treasurer of the Aid for many years with great devotion. Always regular at worship and always ready to do her part wherever she could. She was also an esteemed member of Jefferson Rebekah Lodge No 74. In all these circles she will be greatly missed. She is survived by four children: Mrs E A Feakes of Fennimore, Wisconsin, Mrs John Strawn of Arlington, Mrs John Watson of Aurora, and Arthur Miller of Center Point, two brothers and two sisters: Will McFarlane of Arlington Parley McFarlane of Riceville and Mrs WIll Seedorff of Arlington and Mrs Fred Seedorff of Dundee; (two brothers and one sister preceded her); seventeeng grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church in Oelwein on Saturday, November 22 at two o'clock, conducted by her pastor, the Rev L W Hauter. Mrs C B Hinta sang two numbers accompanied by Mrs Glenn Johnson. Burial in Union Cemetery near Arlington.
