Read More	Cedar Rapids Evening Gazette Marion News Monday February 20, 1928 Mrs. Peter Martin, Resident of Linn 83 Years, Is Dead Following a long illness Mrs. Peter Martin died at her home 520 Twelfth street Sunday at 1:30 a.m. As Margaret Jane McWilliams she was born in Linn county Jan. 29, 1845. Her girlhood was spent on a farm and she always lived in this county. After her marriage to Peter Martin, they lived on a farm three miles from the Prairieburg church. They moved to Marion thirty years ago. Mr. Martin, at one time city marshal[l] here, died Oct. 26, 1905. He was a veteran of the Civil war. Since his death, Mrs. Martin had never left the home. She fell and suffered a broken hip twenty-eight years ago and since then had been crippled. Mr. and Mrs. Martin were the parents of six children, five of whom survive her. A son, Elza Ward Martin, died July 16,1925, at Santa Fe, N.M. One daughter, Mrs. Mildred Boynton, had made her home with her mother the last two years. The others who survive are Mrs. Flora Helfry of Chicago, Dale of Iowa City, Mrs. Ethel Wenger of Lamont, Ernest of Manly and one siste,r Mrs. Mary Beltzer, of Osceola, Neb. Many years ago Mrs. Martin became a member of Prairie Chapel Methodist church, later transferring her membership to the local church. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Pingrey chapel, with the Rev. William C. Perdew, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Shade cemetery. 1880 census shows Peter and Margaret Martin born PA and OH respectively with daughter Flora age 10, daughter Millie age 8, son Elza age 7, son age 1 (can't read his name). 1900 US census shows family Peter and Margaret Martin both born in Ohio, married 31 years with 6 children. The children at home are Milly E. age 28, son Whitney D. age 21, Ethel M. age 15 and Samuel E. age 12; also a granddaughter Hazel Peck age 5 lives with them.
