Description	:	Margaret K. Schanou was born on November 10, 1919, at Odessa to John and Pansy (Nichols) Schanou. She graduated from Odessa High School. She then attended Kearney State College for two years and later taught school in Banner county for two years. She married Thorval J. Lockwood July 11, 1939, at Kearney. She had lived in Gering since 1940. She was actively involved in the family business, manufacturing potato and onion processing and harvesting equipment. Schanou was born on November 10, 1919, at Odessa to John and Pansy (Nichols) Schanou. She graduated from Odessa High School. She then attended Kearney State College for two years and later taught school in Banner county for two years. She married Thorval J. Lockwood July 11, 1939, at Kearney. She had lived in Gering since 1940. She was actively involved in the family business, manufacturing potato and onion processing and harvesting equipment. She traveled extensively with her husband worldwide, establishing 10 branches in the United States, and one in the Netherlands with over 350 employees. After the death of her husband in 1957, she became president of Lockwood Corp.until 1964, when the family sold their interest. She resided at the Vista at Northfield Villa in Gering for the past seven years. She served on the Gering school board three terms, from 1960 until 1972, serving as president for two years. She was elected to the State School Board of Eduction in 1974 and 1978, serving eight years. She was a member of the church for 54 years, where she served as president of the Women's Club and held various district and state positions within the church. She served on the Wyobraska Area Council of Boy Scouts, was past president of Platte Valley Camp Fire council, 6th District past president Nebraska Federation Women's Club, member of the Rebekah Lodge, member Delta Kappa Gamma Honor Society for Women's Education, and was a member of the Scotts Bluff Republican Women. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Fred and Carol Lockwood of Scottsbluff; daughters and sons-in-law Genene and Stuart Morrison of Mitchell, Linda and David Abbott of Chandler, Arizona, and Andrea and Stephen Johnson of Grapevine Texas; brother and sister-in-law Cort and Iona Schanou of Kearney; sisters and brothers-in-law Pansy Stirrat of Bridgeport and Emily and Robert Neff of Cheyenne; 11 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters and one brother. ###
