McGowan The early hours heralding the advent of Easter Sunday, came with a significant meaning to the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. McGowan when Mrs. McGowan passed calmly into her last sleep at the family residence at 543 Banner street in Schuyler. Mrs. McGowan had been an invalid the past eight years and had been confined to her bed for four years. Surrounded by members of the family with the observance of the last rites of the Catholic church, Mrs. McGowan, with an unfaltering trust and an implicit and comforting faith, peacefully passed into the great beyond, yielding up her spirit to Him who is the giver of all life. Funeral rites were conducted Tuesday morning at nine o'clock at St. Augustine's Catholic church the resident priest, the Rev. Father J. S. Dobson celebrating the requiem mass. Many friends were in attendance at the last rites. Numerous beautiful floral tributes were sent to the home by friends who wished in that manner to convey their sympathy. Other friends chose to pay their tribute of respect and esteem with spiritual bouquets. Burial was made in the Ulysses cemetery where rest the remains of an infant daughter who passed away in 1892. The local Degree of Honor and Royal Neighbors lodges attended the funeral rites in bodies. Miss Margaret Boyle was born at Pierpoint Center, St. Lawrence county, New York, on April 22, 1863. Had her life's journey extended to the 22nd of next month ,she would have attained the age of 69 year. Her girlhood days were spent in her native state. When 20 years of age, she came to Nebraska and became a resident of Staplehurst. She taught in the rural schools of Seward county for two years. Her marriage to James J. McGowan was solemnized at Seward on February 3, 1887. Mr. and Mrs. McGowan resided in Seward county until 1898 when they moved to Greeley. In 1925, they came to Schuyler to reside and have made this city their home since that time. Surviving are the husband, three daughters, Mrs. Stephen A. Bradley, of Ulysses; Miss Mary McGowan and Mrs. Charles W. Tooher, both of Schuyler; four sons, John B. McGowan, Dr. P. H. McGowan, both of Schuyler, Thomas McGowan of Greeley and Dr. James B. McGowan of Portsmouth, Iowa, one sister, Mrs. Julia Boyle, of New York City, one brother, Timothy Boyle, of Canton, New York, and 11 grandchildren. Mrs. McGowan was a member of the Schuyler Degree of Honor lodge and of the Royal Neighbors lodge at Greeley. Mrs. McGowan was a patient and cheerful in her long suffering, affectionate and devoted to her family, kind and thoughtful and helpful to neighbors and friends and her years were years of service to her relatives and friends. MARGARET BOYLE McGOWAN PASSES IN NEBRASKA Letters and papers were received here recently announcing the death of Mrs. J. J. McGowan at her home at Schuyler, Neb., following an extended period of illness. Funeral services with requiem mass took place on the Tuesday morning following at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, of that city. Mrs. McGowan was before marriage Margaret Boyle, a native of Pierrepont Center, St. Lawrence County, born April 22, 1863, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Boyle of that town, and a sister of Timothy Boyle, now a resident of this village. She was educated in the schools of Canton and at the age of twenty went to Staplehurst, Neb., and engaged in teaching. In 1887 she was married to James J. McGowan at Seward, Neb. For a number of years the couple resided in Seward County, removing from there to Greeley, and in 1925 to Schuyler where their home has been to this time. Mrs. McGowan leaves her husband, three daughters and four sons, all residents of the Middle West; one sister, Julia B. Boyle of New York City and a brother, Timothy Boyle of Canton.
