Description	:	Sister Margaret Penner, nee Toews, our dear mother was born April 13, 1895, in Hochstadt, Manitoba, from where she moved with her parents to Swalwell, Alta., in 1905 in fall. Here she spent her girlhood days. On March 1, 1916 we were united in marriage. We then moved to Manitoba, where we made our home in which we mutually shared the joys and sorrows of life. The last opportunity we had to converse one with another we dwelt on this subject, of the joys and sorrows of life, and we concluded, that joys we shared together far exceeded the sorrows... Read More	Sister Margaret Penner, nee Toews, our dear mother was born April 13, 1895, in Hochstadt, Manitoba, from where she moved with her parents to Swalwell, Alta., in 1905 in fall. Here she spent her girlhood days. On March 1, 1916 we were united in marriage. We then moved to Manitoba, where we made our home in which we mutually shared the joys and sorrows of life. The last opportunity we had to converse one with another we dwelt on this subject, of the joys and sorrows of life, and we concluded, that joys we shared together far exceeded the sorrows we experienced. She expressed her great joy over this in her last conversation with me, also that the good Lord had so led us in His powerful and loving ways. In 1921 we decided to give our hearts to the Lord, were converted and baptized. Since then in her weakness she has faithfully tried to serve the Lord, but often said how unworthy she felt. She was especially concerned to bring up her children in the right way, and to live before them as an example. It was a heavy load for her to carry when in 1924, I was ordained to the ministry. But as we were home from the meeting she exclaimed, "John, I will help you all I can." I was in Seebe, Alberta, with the boys, when they phoned me the sad news, my wife had died. A shock almost too great to bear. She was visiting with her brothers and sisters at Swalwell at this time. She was sick about half an hour, then died in what seemed a natural sleep at 1:30 A. M. May 20, at her old home place of her parents where D. D. Toewses now reside. My wife, our mother, reached the age of forty-seven years 1 month, and 7 days. We were married 26 years, 2 months and 20 days. We had 4 sons and 5 daughters. She leaves to mourn her so sudden departure, her husband, 5 daughters, 4 sons, 1 son-in-law, an aged mother-in-law, her step mother, 6 brothers, 6 sisters and many relatives and friends. Funeral services were held May 21 at Swalwell in Linden meeting place. Introductory remarks were made by Brother Isaac Toews. Text read by Brother F. F. Hiebert. After services they left for Calgary. Homeward bound but so different from what we expected, They left Calgary May 22 in the morning, were accompanied by mother's sister and brother-in-law, Claude Unruhs and her brother Jac D. Toews. Br. Abram Regehr and Sis. Gladys Loewen. They all arrived at our home Saturday May 23, 10:30 A. M. What a sad coming home. God helped and gave us strength to bear it. Sunday afternoon funeral services were held here in Kleefeld with a very large attendance. Brother Joseph Isaac had the introduction and Brother George Giesbrecht from Steinbach read the text: Isaiah 38:17E; and 40:5-8, and 40:1-5. The remains were laid to rest in the nearby cemetery. --The bereaved family,John I. Short seems thy stay, thou wert with us, Many the fears thou didst calm. Many the sorrows and heartaches Were soothed by thy motherly balm The days that you spent with your loved ones, Away from our presence and home, A yearning and longing came o'er us We felt very much all alone. There's joy in our souls as we ponder There's a hope for Eternity's shore We know you are waiting there for us Where we'll live in that bliss evermore.
