The Rev. John Glover will conduct the service. Burial will be in Woodbine Cemetery. Mrs. Birchard died Sept. 20, 1992, at Meadowridge, where she had lived for a short time. She was born Aug. 31, 1905, in Baltimore, Md., and was a daughter of the late William Benton and Bessie Definbaugh Twigg. She moved to Harrisonburg in 1927, where she worked at Wilson Jewelers and Taliaferro Jewelers for 35 years before retiring. Mrs. Birchard was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church and was active in the Episcopal Women of the Church. She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 76 and a charter member of the Rockingham Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. On Oct. 8, 1927, she married Allen Matthew Birchard, who died Nov. 21,1990. Surviving are two daughters, Marjorie Leake of Harrisonburg and Nancy Swayne of Pekin, Ill.; one sister, Mabel Defibaugh of Sterling; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the RMH Regional Cancer Center, 100 E. Grace St., Harrisonburg, Va. 22801, or to Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 600 S. Main St. Harrisonburg.
