Description	:	CHESAPEAKE- Margaret Yandle Williams, 90, passed away on March 22, 2011. She was born on October 2, 1920 to the late Joseph and Belle Lindsey Yandle of South Norfolk. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Lankford Belmont Williams, a former Chesapeake City councilman. She was a 1938 graduate of Kempsville High School and also Norfolk Business College. She was born on October 2, 1920 to the late Joseph and Belle Lindsey Yandle of South Norfolk. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Lankford Belmont Williams, a former Chesapeake City councilman. She was a 1938 graduate of Kempsville High School and also Norfolk Business College. Mrs. Williams was a charter member of Greenbrier Baptist Church and most recently a member of Indian River Baptist Church. She was a former Sunday school teacher, held a weekly Bible study class in her home for seven years, and served on many church committees. She was active in numerous civic organizations, i.e., as the Girl Scouts where she served as a leader for 15 years. She was involved in the building of Camp Werowanee, served as Camp Director, District Chairman and served on the State Board for Girl Scouts. Mrs. Williams was a strong leader in PTA and served as president of Norfolk Highlands Elementary, Great Bridge Jr. High and Great Bridge High Schools. She was the first president of the Tidewater Region and State Scholarship chairman. She held a Life Membership in the Virginia State PTA and National PTA. Mrs. Williams was presented with the 1965 School Bell award from the Chesapeake Education Association. She served as a chairman for the Drug Abuse Council for six years. Mrs. Williams was the second president of the Women’s Division of the Chesapeake Chamber of Commerce. She served on the board of the Chesapeake Chamber of Commerce, was a member of the Chesapeake Citizens Advisory Council and served on UDAC of Virginia Council on Alcoholism and Drug Control. She was a charter member of Chesapeake General Hospital Auxiliary, a member of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Auxiliary and a former volunteer at Norfolk General Hospital. Mrs. Williams was the president and owner of Webb Realty Corporation and president of Bel-Ray Properties, Inc. She served on the Mental Health Board and was the recipient of the Mother of the Year award from Chesapeake Ruritan Club in 1973. She was a board member of the Kirk-Cone Rehabilitation Center, Chesapeake Christian Women’s Club, Chesapeake Pilots Club, Anchor Club organizer, Chesapeake Friends of the Library, the Chesapeake Beautification Council, and the Citizens Advisory Commission. Mrs. Williams was on the board of the Tidewater Association for Retarded Children. She was the organizer of the George Civic League and past president of the Oaklette Garden Club. Mrs. Williams was active in the Republican Party serving as Honorary State chairman and was a member of the Bush President’s Club. She organized the first Chesapeake Prayer Breakfast and was instrumental in bringing Billy Graham to the area. Mrs. Williams is survived by her two daughters; LaRay W. Mason and her husband, Charles, of Richmond, and Linda W. Herron and her husband, Danny of Chesapeake; two grandchildren, Dr. Cheryl M. Bolick and her husband, Arty of Chapel Hill and Charles Lee “Tripp” Mason III, of Powhatan; three great-granddaughters; Eleanor Anders, Virginia Mason and Margaret Belmont. A funeral service will be at Indian River Baptist Church, Friday with Pastor Ernest Roebuck officiating. Burial will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.
