Gorby, 88 of North Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Athens and The Plains died March 15, 2013 at Hope Hospice House in Cape Coral, Florida. Born September 12, 1924 in Athens, she was the daughter of the late George ‘Ted' and Mary Ator Shafer. She was retired from Ohio University and was employed at various local businesses in the Athens Area. Peggy was former owner of Gorby's Trailer Court in The Plains. She was a member of Athens and Pamona Grange, Chi Omega Sorority, and a member of Alexander Presbyterian Church and Bayshore Community Chapel in North Fort Myers. Besides her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Darrel, sister Irene Dearing, grandson Allen Llewellyn and granddaughter Shannon Gorby. She is survived by daughter Bonnie Gorby of Athens who formerly shared her home in Florida; a son and daughter-in-law John and Rebecca Gorby of Athens; a daughter and son-in-law Wanda and Ron Llewellyn of Athens; five grandchildren, Carol Sinclair of Albany, Debbie Llewellyn of Athens, Jim Llewellyn and wife Amy of Albany, Stephen Llewellyn of Columbus and Justin Cullison of Lucasville; four great -grandchildren, Kayla Sinclair of Athens, Jessie Sinclair of Jacksonville, Emma and Andrew Llewellyn of Albany; and brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Margaret Shafer of San Diego, California. Peggy held a special place in her heart for nephews Bill Shafer (dec.), Tommy Gould (dec.), Gene Gorby (dec.), Chuck Dearing, Jim Dearing, David Haines, Jeff Shafer, Brad Shafer, and nieces Patty Hawkins (dec.), Sandy Gorby, and special friend Ellen Wright, as well as many neighbors and friends in both Ohio and Florida. Peggy was active in the Athens area having worked diligently to bring Beacon School to the community, as PTA officer for both Mechanicsburg and Waterloo schools, as a 4-H advisor for many years and as the official neighborhood chauffer for vacation bible school and church functions for both young and old alike. After retirement she continued community involvement in Pioneer Village in Florida as officer of the home owner's association, champion shuffler, and was a volunteer at All Souls Church Thrift Shop in North Fort Myers. She enjoyed playing cards with special friends who came to her when she was unable to go out. She found much solace and comfort during her senior years at Bayshore Community Chapel in North Fort Myers. Friends and family may call at Hughes-Moquin Funeral home from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 21. At Peggy's request graveside services will be held at Alexander Cemetery
