Read More	Suggested edit: Bio by Dawn Boettger ( 49201685) Margarethe Amanda Vosgerau was born on a farm northwest of Denison, Iowa, March 26, 1884, the daughter of Fritz and Margaret Kruse Boettger. She was raised on the farm and attended the West Brick School in Denison for a short time before completing her education at the rural school located on her father's farm. Later she attended the Laura Van Toule sewing school in Denison. At an early age Margarethe was employed at the John Saggau home helping to care the Saggau children. For two and half years she worked for her cousin, Fritz Timm, who owned the Timm Hotel in Denison. Margarethe learned a lot of her culinary art while working in the kitchen there and was later employed at the Nielson Hotel and Brandt Hotel.On July 30, 1909, she was united in marriage with Otto Vosgerau at the Lutheran Parsonage in Waterloo, Iowa. Two children were born to this union, Harold and Lucille. They made their home in Denison where her husband was employed at the Denison Bulletin. Later Otto and his brother-in-law, Henry Finneran, purchased and operated the Denison Review for many years.Mr. Vosgerau died in January of 1940, and Margaretha continued to reside at their home in Denison. In later years she lived with her son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Lois, until September of 1971 when she moved to the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison where she had since resided. Her death occurred at the Eventide Home early Wednesday,April 4, 1984. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 100 years and 8 days.Margarethe was a lifelong member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. At the time of her death she was the oldest member of the Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid having joined the body in 1926 and had maintained her membership for 58 years, and was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Denison.Margarethe was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her daughter, Lucille Vosgerau, who was a Navy Nurse during World War II and died at Bethesda, Maryland, in October of 1956, her son, Dr. Harold Vosgerau, a dentist in Denison who died April 15, 1981, one grandson, Douglas Harold Vosgerau, who died in infancy, seven brothers, Fred, Rudolph, Roy, Ben, Hugo, John and Dewey Boettger, and one sister, Amanda Verdugo. She is survived by daughter-in-law, Lois Vosgerau of Denison, one granddaughter, Deborah Vosgerau of Glidden, and sister, Bertha, Mrs. Earl Harlem of Redlands, California. Also many nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.Services were held Friday, April 6, 1984, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison. Interment was in the Oakland Cemetery, Denison.
