She was born June 6, 1922 in Elwood, the daughter of Wilford E. and Beatrice H. (Buckman) Wheatley. In November 1946, she married Charles W. Lawhead, who preceded her in death on March 17, 1975. In January 1982, she married Paul W. Wagner, who preceded her in death on July 6, 1986. In November 1986, she married George J. Englert, who preceded her in death on July 18, 1988. Margie was a graduate of St. Joseph High School in Elwood. She worked for Guide Lamp in Anderson, The Carl Ann Shop and was the owner of the Lawhead Body & Paint Shop. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and the Altar Rosary Society. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a member of a Bridge club for over 40 years. She was the first woman to be an officer in the Kokomo chapter of the Independent Garage Owners Association. Her husband Charles was one of the founders of the local chapter. Margie is survived by two sons, David A. Lawhead and wife Merry of Annandale, Virginia, Paul J. Lawhead of Kokomo; two daughters, Charleen (Lawhead) Freeman of Kokomo, Katherine (Lawhead) Ponchock and husband Bill of Centreville, Virginia; grandchildren, Anne (Lawhead) Hanson and husband Pat of Virginia, Charles Lawhead of Colorado, Jeffrey Lawhead of Virginia, Corinne Lawhead of Virginia, Mark Freeman and wife Kim of Colorado, Theresa (Freeman) Dart and husband Jeff of Wisconsin, Steve Freeman and wife Andrea of Indiana, Sara (Lawhead) Driskle of Pennsylvania, Amie (Lawhead) Sheehan and husband Mike of Pennsylvania, Kayla Lawhead of Indiana, Alexandria Lawhead of Indiana; 14 great-grandchildren; step-children, Mike Englert and wife Sharon of Illinois, Tom Englert and wife Kathy of Indiana; eight step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Alice Lawhead; one son, Maurice C. Lawhead; three brothers, Edward, Raymond and Herbert; five sisters, Mary, Lavella, Therese, Marie and Helen; three husbands, Charles W. Lawhead, Paul W. Wagner and George J. Englert. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2013 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3155 South 200 West, with Rev. Fr. Ted Dudzinski the celebrant. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 West Lincoln Road from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday. A Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joan of Arc & Patrick School Tuition Assistance Fund.
