Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery, Clinton. Mrs. McNamara died Friday, June 8, 2001, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, following a brief illness. Margaret Mary Timmer was born on May 29, 1921, to Bernard C. and Gertrude R. (Luedtke) Timmer in Preston. She married Matthew W. McNamara on Aug. 19, 1947, in Robinsdale, Minn. He preceded her in death on Sept. 14, 1961. Margaret attended St. Joseph's School in Sugar Creek and St. Patrick's School in Clinton. She was a graduate of Mount St. Clare Academy and Mount St. Clare College, both in Clinton. She also was a graduate of Marycrest College, Davenport. Margaret was an educator at schools in Illinois and Iowa for 24 years. She was the religious education coordinator and catechist at St. Mary's parish, Clinton, for three years. Margaret also was the cook for several priests at St. Mary's Parish Rectory for three years. Margaret was a former member of Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace Parish; the Prince of Peace Auxiliary and Daughters of Isabella. She also was a member of the Clinton County Retired Teachers' Association, the Iowa Retired School Personnel Association and a life member of the National Education Association. While living in Cedar Rapids, Margaret was a member of St. Matthew's Parish where she served as minister of hospitality on Sundays. She also was a member of the parish's St. Bernadette Circle and the senior citizen group. She served as a catechist in the religious education program at St. Jude's Catholic Parish. Margaret was a weekly volunteer at the Alzheimer's Association office. Margaret is survived and lovingly remembered by a daughter, Mary; two grandchildren; a sister, Terry; a brother, Bernard; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
