Mrs. Bell was a daugnter of the late Hugh and Margaret McMillan, pioneer residents of this county, coming here from Scotland. Her father was the first school teacher in Lonaconing and was later mine superintendent. Mrs. Bell was born October 27, 1855, at Vale Summit, and married Thomas Bell in 1871. She had resided in Lonaconing for the past sixty years. She was the mother or eleven children of whom nine survive: Miss Margaret Bell, Army Nursing Corps, U. S. General Hospital, San Francisco, Cal.; Mrs. Frederick T. Bowden and Mrs. Hugh Atkinson, Lonaconing; Misses Marion M., and Agnes Bell and Hugh Bell, at home; Mrs. John J. Stevens, Frostburg; David Bell, Barton, and Thomas Bell, Lonaconing. She also leaves three sisters, and one brother, Mrs. Agnes Young, Cumberland; Mrs. Frank Green, Lonaconing; Mrs John Green, Garrett County, and Hugh McMillan, Lonaconing. Mrs. Bell was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian church and was active in the Ladies Sewing Circle and Foreign Missionary Society. She was also a member of Martha Washington Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star and Adam Thompson Rebekkah Lodge. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the home, with the Rev. Selden C. Adams, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
