Born in Gaffney, she was the wife of the late Lewis Jones Huskey, Sr. and daughter of the late Clarence C. Phillips and Augusta Allison Phillips. Margaret started her career working at the People’s Drug Store in downtown Gaffney as a teenager then later retired from Oxford Industries after many years of service. She ended her career volunteering at Sub Station II. Margaret was an active member of Grassy Pond Baptist Church where she served in many capacities. Surviving are two daughters, Linda Richardson and husband John and Shelba Cook and husband, William “Smitty”, and one son, Lewis J. Huskey, Jr. and wife Ramona, all of Gaffney, S.C.; five grandchildren, David Kirby and wife Dee of Gaffney, S.C., Ryan Kirby and wife Chasity of Gaffney, S.C., Allison Cook Welch and husband Al of Charlotte, N.C., Julia Cook Shuler and husband Kyle of Spartanburg, S.C. and Mollie L. Huskey of Columbia, S.C.; eleven great-grandchildren, Brittany Scruggs, Kelly Scruggs, Jessica Ramsey, Ryan A. Kirby, Lauren Kirby, Lance Kirby, Kyle Kirby, Tripp Welch, Maggie Welch, Riley Shuler and Sarah Shuler; two sisters, Ella Mae (Tootie) Reaves of Gaffney and JoAnn Hoyle of Rutherfordton, N.C.; one goddaughter, Rhonda White Hamrick and many close loving nephews and nieces. Margaret was preceded in death by three brothers, Dewey Phillips, Bobby K. Phillips and J. B. Phillips and one sister, Grace Vinesett. A very special thank you from the entire family for our team of angels, Mimi’s caregivers: Veronica Davis, Harriett Byrd, and Sara Wilson, and to the team of Hospice Care of South Carolina, Amy, Peaches and Danielle. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Grassy Pond Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Church with Dr. Terry Lanford and Rev. Martin Hogg officiating. Interment will be in the Grassy Pond Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Margaret Huskey Circle or The Huskey Youth Fund of Grassy Pond Baptist Church, 254 Grassy Pond Road, Gaffney, S.C. 29341.
