November 18, 1938 - Carroll Daily Herald - Mrs. Margaret Kisgen, mother of Ted Kisgen of Carroll and John Kisgen of Templeton, died suddenly of a heart attack at her home on West First Street at 5 o'clock Friday morning. Mrs Kisgen had enjoyed good health until the latter part of the summer when heart trouble and complication developed but she had not been ill in bed at any time. She had been up and about her home every day. Mrs. Kisgen, who had her 81st birthday Monday of this week, had resided in her home in Carroll since November of last year. Her grand daughter, Evelyn Kisgen of Templeton, lived with her. The body is at the Gregory Funeral Home, where it will rest until the time of the services. Rites will be held Monday morning at SS. Peter and Paul's church, with Rev L. Schenkleberg reading the requiem mass. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Mrs Kisgen had lived in or near Carroll for the last half century. She was born Margaret Schmitz at Oberweiler, Province of Treir, in the Rhineland of Germany, Nov 14, 1857. About 53 years ago she married Mathias Kisgen in Mettrich, Germany. In April 1888, Mr and Mrs Kisgen and their son, John, who was then less than a year old came to the US to make their home. After residing at Mannning for a short time, they came to Carroll, where the son, Ted, was born. Mrs Kisgen had lived in or near Carroll ever since that time. About 20 years ago Mrs Kisgen bought her home in Carroll, in which she lived intermittently during the ensuing years. She returned to her home here the day before Thanksgiving last year. Mrs Kisgen was a member of SS Peter and Paul's church and the Rosary Society of the parish. Surviving are her two sons, John Kisgen of Templeton and Ted Kisgen of Carroll, 15 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband. Mrs Kisgen was one of a family of four children, two brothers who came to this country and one sister, who remained in Germany. She was the last survivor of the family.
