Owens of Westernport Hill. A week ago today, Mrs. Owens was in excellent health no signs of illness, and bidding fair to live a long and useful life with family and friends. Suddenly, and without warning even, she was stricken with paralysis Friday and from that hour until her death Wednesday, she lay unconscious with the exception of a short while when her friends and relatives had the consolation of a few moments conference with her, not then expecting that the illness would prove fatal. Mrs. Owens was a Miss Margaret Gregg, born at Summerfield, Somerset, Pa., in 1868 coming from a family well known and highly respected throughout that section and Garrett county. Some of her girlhood was passed in Westernport however. She was married to Mr. Owens in August 1889 at Piedmont by Rev. Watson Case at that time the pastor of the M.E. church. She has resided among us ever since. She leaves two children, both young in years, Master Robert and Miss Elsie. Beside the sorrowing husband, the deceased leaves the following relatives: Father, Mr. John Gregg, Garrett county, sisters, Mrs. Mollie Broadwater, Mrs. Amy Dixon, Mrs. Rachael Michaels, Miss Florence Gregg; one brother, Mr. Harry Gregg, the latter with sister Florence residing in Montana. Mrs. Owens was a member of the M. E. church from girlhood and was noted in her immediate neighborhood for a kindly nature, exercising every opportunity that presented itself to do good and minister to the wants of friends and neighbors. The funeral was this afternoon, the interment being at Philos cemetery. (contributed by John Fazenbaker) In Maggie's obituary are many errors. Her mother was NOT Martha Ann Broadwater Gregg; she was her very kind step-mother. Her parents were Jehu (NOT John) GREGG and Margaret EASTER. Her siblings were indeed Harry and Mollie; but Amy, Rachel (spelled w/ one A), and Florence were younger half-siblings.
